Personality:
Maya is an eternal optimist. No matter how bad things get, she’s determined to smile through, thoroughly convinced that moping around never helped anyone and a bad attitude just makes you your own worst enemy. Whether the trouble of the week is demons, serial killers, a new-age cult or demon lords using humankind as their personal playthings, Maya remains calm and soldiers on without batting an eyelash. Her cheer is often infectious, which is part of the reason she has always wound up being the leader of any given group in the past. Even while those around her despair, she’ll make every effort to help them find the silver lining in every cloud and work hard to inspire them to carry on. When the going gets real rough, she’s been known to whip out a stuffed rabbit doll, creatively named “Mr. Rabbit,” and use him to cheer the group on. If they stubbornly insist on staying down in the dumps, she’ll tell them quite frankly that Mr. Rabbit will cry. He is not a bunny to be trifled with.

A very nurturing soul, Maya easily became the universal “big sister” to her group of friends in Sumaru City. Though her connection to Tatsuya was always the closest, she felt beholden to the group as a whole and took great pleasure in looking after them as they worked to reveal and dismantle the operations of the Joker and the Masquerade. She is fiercely protective of those she cares about, and will not abide slander of any kind when it comes to someone she considers a friend. Being as friendly as she is, that includes a whole lot of people. Maya is extremely personable and very social, happy to talk to anyone that’s willing to lend an ear and quite genuinely interested in getting to know most people who cross her path.

Although winsome and consistently cheerful, Maya is far from being syrupy-sweet. She’s very playful by nature, something that often works to the disadvantage of her friends. To put it simply, Maya has more than once proven herself to be a real-life troll, though a well-meaning one. One specific incident involved her assisting Ulala and Baofu in setting up a diversion in a restaurant in order to give Maya herself clearance to meet with a potential info source. Before excusing herself, Maya fed Baofu a number of lines to use in the “scene” that was about to play out, then disappeared to handle her end of the job. Baofu took her advice and was promptly beaten near-senseless by Ulala for being an insensitive bastard. When Maya was confronted, all Baofu got in return was a smile and a dismissive wave. Did it for the lulz, indeed.

Maya is a very opinionated young woman, which isn’t terribly surprising, given that she’s a journalist. She has comments to make on just about every situation she comes across, though she does her best to do so tastefully. She’s not at all afraid to speak her mind, often to the embarrassment of those closest to her, who are not quite so open with their feelings. She’s good at reading people, and will occasionally voice someone’s unspoken thoughts for them if she feels it’s necessary – in the case of Tatsuya Suou, she does this with some regularity. Shy about very little, Maya speaks freely without fear of being judged or rejected. She has also shown herself to be a blatant flirt when it comes to certain people, making her feelings about the person in question very clear without reservation. She has a fondness for Engrish and is known for her cheerful motto of "Let's think positive!," often twisted to “Let’s positive thinking!,” and regularly abuses the exclamation "Ciao!" alongside Ulala.

“It’s whoop-ass time!”

Canon Powers:
Other than being a Persona-user prior to her arrival in Hinoto-Ri, she has none. She has the ability to attune herself to multiple Personas, as do her companions, but can only keep one with her at any given time, so it’s not quite as impressive as the power of the Wild Card belonging to later protaganists.

Twin Pistols, decidedly pink; Physical.

Canon Allies:
N/A

Canon Baggage:
- Mr. Rabbit
- Tape recorder with microphone.

Adjusting to any new city always took some doing, but Maya felt that the best way to experience any new place was on foot. She had taken the liberties of giving herself a tour of the more hospitable areas of Hinoto-Ri, and late morning found her in the Virgo district. She smiled to herself as she walked along the sidewalk, passing stalls and occasionally leaning over to get a better look at the wares they had on display.

No matter where you were, there was just something about shopping that was incredibly soothing. She made a mental note to pick up a new bag while she was out – the old one hadn’t come along with her, but it was probably just as well. It had been about to fall apart at the seams anyway, which was probably to be expected, considering she filled it up with various things for work and lugged it just about everywhere. A quick glance down the street revealed that one of the shops ahead might have exactly what she was looking for, but the entrance to the local grocery store was significantly closer. Small as her apartment was, that fridge still needed to be stopped. Well, no reason not to stop inside and pick a few essentials, was there?

The noise of the street fell away as she entered, allowing the door to close smoothly behind her as she reached for a basket and proceeded to peruse the aisle. Bland but not entirely unpleasant music came from the speakers mounted near the ceiling, and Maya offered one of them a brief but almost reproachful look. “It’s no Satomi Tadashi,” she lamented, talking to no one in particular, “But it will have to do!”

A sharp left turn down the nearest aisle, however, gave her cause to startle as she caught sight of the far wall. Were those--?

“Weapons?” she asked aloud, tilting her head as she examined the variety of swords, guns, and various types of armor mounted along the wall behind a counter. She smiled to herself, shaking her head in disbelief. “This really is going to take some getting used to, but it’s no stranger than a restaurant doubling as an arms dealer, I suppose.” They had just been more discreet about it in Sumaru, that’s all – at least until more rumors started flying.

“Well. At least I know where to restock on ammunition!”
